A little worried

August 21st, 2008 at 01:31 am

Ugh.

So I'm a little worried that I won't be able to financially survive until mid-September. Car insurance is due this month, and of course with my new fiscal responsible ways, I'm budgeting for this expense ... but since I haven't in the past, for this month it's a big expense.

I'll be fine for the rest of August, and will be fine to pay rent and a FEW bills, but the rub is that most of my bills fall near the beginning of the month. So I'm just a little worried. I have my dad's birthday to think of, too. Ugh.

Have any of you negotiated a due date extension on any of your utility bills before? Is that an option for me?

I have not negotiated a due date extension, but I do feel your pain. It seems that everything is all coming at once. ugh.

I have no advice, but it really is amazing how much a car can cost when you tally it all up....

I called my electric company and asked for a change of due date from the 18th to the 25th each month, because I get paid on the 20th. It was no problem at all! In fact, I don't think I even called them, I just emailed the Customer Service address on their website. I heard back from someone a day or two later that my due date had been moved to the 25th. Good luck to you!

I have never asked for an extension on my utility bills either.

    It can't hurt to ask.

I agree. Just ask and see what they say. You could also probably do this with your credit cards.

As for your budget, it's great you have all the expenses down for the month. The other half of the budget is a funding plan. In other words, if you get paid weekly, where does that check go?

In my life, most of my bills are due around the first. I have insurance ($1,258), mortgage ($2,780), medical bills ($500), and used to have car payments as well ($1,000). As you can see that's a lot of money going out in the first week. So I get paid weekly, if I could take $1,400 out of each paycheck, I would have enough to pay the bills.

So I think if you start working on a funding plan for your budget, you should be good to go.

    God luck!!!

Yes I have negotiated a due date extension on a my utility bills before and it was granted and I was able to pay it by the date I was given. I wouldn't worry about a b-day when a bill need to get paid. A happy b-day is good enough. Focus on your bills.
